Volunteer Day Each year, on the third Saturday in May, Nicor Gas employees celebrate the spirit of volunteerism and teamwork by participating in our annual Volunteer Day in communities where they live and serve. Nicor Gas employees, joined by family members, friends and community groups, complete projects for local service agencies across Northern Illinois.

In 2011, more than 1,200 volunteers tackled projects in 23 communities as part of the 15th anniversary celebration of Volunteer Day. Projects ranged from framing houses for Habitat for Humanity, sorting food at local pantries and performing outdoor cleanup and landscaping.

Volunteers in Partnership
Nicor Gas rewards its employees for their personal volunteerism through the Volunteers in Partnership (VIP) program. With VIP, each full-time employee who has volunteered at least six months of personal time at a not-for-profit agency is eligible to receive a $500 annual grant to benefit that organization. In 2010, Nicor Gas awarded more than $18,000 in VIP grants on behalf of employees who shared their time and talent with the community.

Nicor Gas is proud to serve as the exclusive energy sponsor of Chicagovolunteer.net, a Web site that matches citizens with volunteer opportunities. Coordinated by Community Resource Network, Chicagovolunteer.net combines Internet technology with a database of non-profit organizations and their activities. Volunteers can access more than 2,500 volunteer opportunities across northern Illinois and sort them by cause, time commitment and location.
